WHAT IS CAFÉ SENTIDO?

Café Sentido is a roving exhibit space, which proposes to create environments for the showing of original artwork, the presentation of new authors and new views on old themes, and which includes events where artists, researchers, writers and others can come together to present or debate their visions of the world and of the human experience in general.

The Café Sentido project is a collaborative effort between Casavaria Publishing, its online news service Sentido.tv and Linkgua Ediciones, of Barcelona, Spain. It is also open to individuals, artists and writers, and other organizations that would like to contribute to specific events or exhibits, and works with different venues for various projects.

'LA TERTULIA'

Tertulia is a Spanish word which refers to discussions that cover a range of topics or that center a group of individuals on a common topic. It may be formal or informal and may even refer to a moment where a group of people are simply meeting and conversing in their usual place with the usual community of friends, about major or trivial topics.

In 19th century, the Belle Epoque and early 20th century Spain, the tertulia was a leitmotif in both literature and in artistic and intellectual circles. Artists like Pablo Picasso honed their avant garde talents in places like Els 4 Gats, in Barcelona, where tertulias both formal and informal produced new artwork, literary magazines and political debate.

The notion of using artwork to help bring people together is the basis of Café Sentido, and Silva evolved into a manner of delivering the varied content needed to underpin the thematic focus of the exhibit program. The 'sentient texts', or rather, texts designed to make readers aware of meditative properties of their environment, led to an awareness that presenting well-crafted text should be as valid as presenting luscious or mysterious new artwork...

No Button to Push, Thankfully
ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED AT SENTIDO.TV, GLOBAL NEWS & ANALYSIS

It has been said in recent decades that leaders of nuclear-armed states have a "finger on the button". Though multiple-key activation and other failsafes meant this was more myth than reality, the proverb seeped into popular consciousness. And so, as it mobilized related streams of thought and envisioning, people came to expect that those who preside over superpowers must enjoy a kind of superhuman prowess to effect results, to shape reality. The idea that a "push-button solution" is available gains momentum, and the world must ask itself whether instant satisfaction as policy and human wellbeing can co-exist politically. [Keep Reading]

'Tree of Life' Makes Used Weapons into Sign of Hope
ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED AT SENTIDO.TV, GLOBAL NEWS & ANALYSIS

In the wake of Mozambique's long civil war, lasting from 1976 to 1992, a group of artists set up the Transforming Arms into Tools project in the nation's capital, Maputo. Sculptors use decomissioned weapons, and parts of weapons to make art, expressing the possibility of finding new ways to secure and advance civil society. [Keep Reading]

Reading as Being & Being Otherwise
PART OF THE DHARMA VISIONS PUBLICATION

We are what we read, or rather, what we take in, and what we are able to digest in full or in part. We are, beyond what is read, the extent to which we read the world. Our self depends almost entirely on our ability to make sense of information we encounter in the course of our existence. We are the extent to which we achieve a reading of the world that works and fosters new beauty and new readings. [Keep Reading]
