POSSIBILITY is a collection of mixed media artworks, collected for their shared assertion of abstract (and for that reason entirely human) landscapes. POSSIBILITY is a move toward reducing the wake of habit and of incremental loss which threatens to overturn the most delicate human undertakings.

These mixed media works use a broad spectrum of color to bring the experience of the unexpected, of untapped possibilities, to the viewer. What seems at first a simple idea, a curl of fog passing over head, becomes a new reality without common restrictions, without the need for negation, beyond the temptation to say no to lived experience. |

Our experience of the world occurs within a set of appearances (as of solidity, of fluidity, of intransigence, of chaos), conditioning our life's project as one of rediscovering what makes these appearances possible. |

RESORT TO BEAUTY
ON THE VALUE OF EXPERIENTIAL BEAUTY IN RESOLVING CONFLICT
Beauty, though mysterious, undefinable, even variable according to subjective experience, is woven into every aspect of life and lived experience. Maybe it is the poet's province alone to take on the burden of working this through, seeing it always, being aware of the most menial, severe and terrible beauties. But the poet's work has resonance because it conjures up a latent awareness of improbable charms, hidden among the tortuous threadwork, the causeways of consciousness. [Full Text]
AVEDON'S PREGNANT SELVES:
RICHARD AVEDON'S PORTRAITS AT THE MET
Avedon's work itself seems to be structured around a fundamental 'island place' of individual being. The subject is starkly portrayed, in silence and asymmetry, against the abstraction of a white background. The whole of an individual's life experience seems visible through the features into which he or she has developed by way of that experience. [Full Text]
CAVE PAINTING
ON THE MAKING OF MEANING
It is the simplest construction: the color seeps in, a single shade mixing with the varied and ancient qualities of the rock. Texture is born. The act redefines the full gamut of existence. It says we are here, and we are made of presence, and we are aware, and we can articulate experience. The expressed fact and the existent being come together. Civilization is begun. [Full Text]
