If human society were comprised of just one hundred people, 48 of us would live on $2 or less per day, though 75 of us would use mobile phones. Fully 13 would have no reliable access to safe drinking water, and 17 would not be able to read or write. 22 would have no electricity, while 93 would never obtain a college degree.

12 would speak one or more of the dominant Chinese languages. 26 would have as their first language either Spanish, English, Arabic, Hindi, Bengali, Portuguese, Russian or Japanese. 62 would speak one of 6,800 other languages. 70 have either little or no regular access to the Internet.
