ALICANTE: EDGE OF THE BLUE Alicante graces the Mediterranean coast, south of Valencia, and marks the Northern edge of the Costa del Sol. A great medieval fortress, the Castillo de Santa Bárbara offers views in all directions, over the city of Alicante and into the distant mountains, or over the brilliant blue Mediterranean. Traces of Bronze Age civilization have been found on the site, and today it houses scultpural and artistic exhibitions and the Museo de las Hogueras (Bonfires). Perched atop Benacantil Mountain, the castle can be reached on foot or by vehicle, along a winding path starting from the city streets. Museo Municipal Casa de la Asegurada: "Casa de la Asegurada": 20th Century Art... Museo Arqueológico Provincial: Bronze Age artifacts, Iberian and Roman ceramics, Roman sculpture... The city center offers fine hotels for all price ranges, in close quarters to shopping, dining and cultural establishments.
