CASAVARIA.COM :: Casavaria Publishing

The main project of Casavaria.com is to put new and classical literature and useful information online and into print in book form. Casavaria Publishing is the service that oversees all these activities, and Casavaria.com the web portal that opens the world of Casavaria to users around the globe.

CASAVARIA BOOKSTORE

Casavaria's book publication project includes an array of new authors and poets, in several languages, primarily Spanish, as of April 2007. In our bookstore section, you can find ways to order Casavaria or Linkgua books directly, links to major online bookstores or more information about the books we produce and the designers behind them.

SENTIDO.tv :: Global news and information resource

Sentido is a unique news publication edited and hosted by Casavaria. Its mission is to find and deliver relevant news on topics of global significance, or which have missed the final cut for the mainstream news.

Many times, the worst conflicts or the most severe crises are overlooked, and major news media can sometimes play a role in filtering out the information people most need in order to make sound judgements as citizens of a free society. Sentido aims to promote and defend the freedom of information against encroachment from arbitrary power.

SENTIDO ENVIRONMENT :: Ecology reports

The Sentido project is devoted to bringing good sense and a critical eye to issues of transcendent importance. The state of the global environment has become in large part the responsibility of the human species. The power to do harm means we must learn to work with natural systems in order to ensure resilience and sustainability, both for our species and its civilization, and for the wellbeing of the planet.

Sentido's environment section is also home to archives of Earth Policy Institute eco-economy update reports, translated into Spanish. This project is a volunteer project which Sentido has developed in order to help deliver vital ecological research to the several hundred million people whose preferred language is Spanish, so that EPI's research can do the most good.

SENTIDO VIDEO :: Sentido.tv goes TV!

The streaming video pages at Sentido.tv are the first step by the news publication into the arena of documentary and news video footage. Sentido will begin with embedded video from other sources, then moving to direct news programming, original documentary content, and eventually, feature-length documentary production.

CAFÉ SENTIDO :: Art exhibits and discussions

Café Sentido is a concept, not a place, not yet anyway. It is a "roving exhibit space" that looks to fill other venues with artwork, thematic events, books for sale and lectures and discussions on topics related to each project's thematic focus.

LINKGUA EDICIONES :: Spanish classics in print

Casavaria has long collaborated with Linkgua.com in content refinement and production, and is now bringing a list of 245 Spanish-language books, published by Linkgua, a Barcelona-based publisher, to North America.

FEAR ENDANGERS BY DECEIVING

THE FALSE PROMISE OF CONVENIENCE OR ESCAPE TEMPTS US TO BE AFRAID & INFLAMES TENSIONS — The fear and uneasiness that provokes human beings to conflict is never what it seems to be; that is its nature and its method: to take hold by way of complex deceptions. Fear wages a coup d'esprit by deceiving the mind into thinking it promises clarity and intellectual comfort, peace of mind, justice and the healing of wounds, that it may actually generate the only feasible path to physical or political safety. [Full Story]

ILLUSION OF THE DEFINITE & INVASIVE 'OTHER'

The identity of groups, or for that matter of individuals is not implacable, nor is it absolutely relative. It follows the vicissitudes of the human health and mind, and requires sincere dialogue with the other in order to reach its fullest potential. The push to establish a single national language can only be sustained on the basis of a number of false premises, all of which work against the interests of both a democratic society and American tradition itself. [Full Story]

THE HIDDEN ALLURE OF 'THE DA VINCI CODE'

The question on many lips in today's media environment is: why has the DaVinci Code done so well in so many markets? Conspiracy theory is too simplistic an explanation for the popularity of the book, too much a device to explain what in the substance of the book attracts special attention among readers. Instead, it would seem the book addresses questions of meaning, truth, humanity and doctrine. And these elements together comprise what we treat as lived "reality". [Full Story]

OUR COLLECTIVE STUDY OF THE UNIVERSE
ON THE 'CREDULITY INSTINCT' & WHY INDIVIDUALS WANT TO BENEFIT FROM ONE ANOTHER'S KNOWLEDGE

People want to believe what their friends, neighbors, teachers, political representatives tell them. They will express skepticism, and they will be brash and indignant about public scandals or about dubious claims, but ultimately, they err on the side of credulity. The human being in society, is able to suspend disbelief to take part in and to further the ongoing project to understand the universe we inhabit... [Full Essay]

BOLOGNA: 70 KM OF PORTICOES & A STUDIED RESISTANCE
EUROPE'S 1ST UNIVERSITY & A SPIRIT OF PERSEVERANCE SHAPE A RICHNESS OF EXPERIENCE

Less well-known than nearby Tuscany with its myriad of famous hillscapes and medieval towns, the region of Emilia Romagna to the east boasts its great and complicated capital: Bologna.  A town known for hearty cuisine and a leftist politics, Bologna is full of things to see and do apart from eating.  It is an under-toured historical city, ripe for rich days of discovery. NO MORE THAN I AM: NOTES FROM THE MARGINS OF SELFHOOD
Joseph Robertson

I can be no more than I am; in the end, I can be no more than I was, and there is a faint solace in thinking it that way. I am a vanished individual. The logistics are somewhat complex, their planning anonymous, and it has been a long night of figuring before I could ascribe a name to my loss. It has very much to do with language, speech, the human project as (ideally) a proliferation of truth and understanding. In the mechanics of media, I was a workaday cog, a single voice... WRITING & NAMING: the medicine of acquiring knowledge

Language is that point of contact in the abstract, that plane where the intellectual life within us is enabled to assert itself as part of the overall experience of living. Language is that plane where the individual self is allowed repeated attempts at manifestation. What takes place in the process of writing, in the spilling of ink or the posting of digital characters, the slip toward defining a landscape, however brief, is the sanctification of an individual, and by extension of the human condition as such... HONEYED THINGS
Joseph Robertson

"With a bundle of fruits & honeyed things"
her summation of the whole imperfect journey
on the verge of arrival
as the palate of her mind
touched down on the nature of surrounding space...

it seemed that anything could have followed
such as "we went forth into the dark
angular world... [Keep Reading]

CRAFTING INVISIBLE FIRES
A NARRATIVE OF LONDON & BRISTOL, DECEMBER 1995

The streets around Leicester Square were laced with street performers of surprising quality. I would later come to know this is not uncommon in the center of London. In particular, I found a string quartet enthralling. They were playing Beethoven and Bach, and within a few minutes had gathered a large crowd around them. They could easily have been playing in any concert hall, but the acoustics of the street and its rushing throng were the site of their sound, and they used it just as well... [Keep Reading]

LA DUDA, EL MISTERIO Y EL VÉRTIGO
Joseph Robertson

MAIN PORTAL ARCHIVE:
ARCHIVE OF WORKS FEATURED ON THIS PAGE

According to Casavaria's guiding philosophy, creative expression in its highest form is a humanitarian act, because it pronounces and expands the essential dignity of the human intellect. Our project is to envision, recognize and promote new forms of cultural and individual expression and to provide a forum where the public and the authors of these new forms can gather and share their knowledge, across cultural and linguistic boundaries. EXERCISES FROM OUR LITERARY WORKSHOP
"Numbering sands"
William Shakespeare writes in Richard II "The task he undertakes is numbering sands and drinking oceans dry..." His meaning is that a given task is near to impossible; it is possible to write some beautiful and glimmering prose or verse by examining ways in which people persist in their attempts to achieve immensely complicated or seemingly unreasonable dreams...
Politics of the Apocryphal, or Unsaid
